Description

Nestled amongst countless azaleas and shady trees in the little Berg, two exclusive cosy cottages with all mod comforts, stares directly up at the mighty face of the towering true Drakensberg, Peaks soar above tumbling waterfalls, deep river valleys, crystal pools, indigenous forests, caves and floral splendours. Spectacular views.

Access: Drive four hours from Johannesburg or two and a quarter from Durban.

The Accommodation: Only two cosy cottages within walking distance from each other

Splash in the little rock pond on the patio. Enjoy braai'ing at the foot of the soaring crags or picnic next to the stream on the property.

From the cottages front doors take pleasant walks along well defined paths or hike for hours up trails to breathtaking panoramic views. Hear the sounds of cool air moving, running brooks or winds wailing in the stillness of the night. Relax, by bird watching, reading, painting, meditating or just dreaming. Gaze at the stars on clear nights. On misty days, wake up in the clouds; bronze the skin in the midday sun, renew the body with crisp fresh air. Close to restaurants, Drakensberg choir school, horseriding,falcon displays, many adventure activities

In winter curl up in front of the fireplace.

Rates

R700.00 (R750.00 Peak Season) per night for the unit, sleeping four (not charged per head). Add R50.00 per night for fifth person.

- I sent a booking request for Ema-Fweni in September 2009. I received a prompt reply confirming it's availability and I immediately requested that my dates be booked and asked for bank details to make a payment. I did not receive a reply. I sent repeated emails and eventually, after not hearing a word, phoned from England to be told that they had booked in someone else. Despite the fact that my family and I are travelling from England, no serious offers were made to us and we have had to spend days seeking alternative accommodation, ending up paying more than double what we had originally planned to spend. I would not recommend Ema-fweni to anyone else and have urged colleagues who were planning to book to look elsewhere.

Directions

Take N3 highway. If coming ex Jhb, ramp off at Exit 29 onto the N5 towards Bethlehem. Turn left off N5 at sign for BERGVILLE/QUAQUA R74. Travel 8.5kms. Turn left onto R74 BERGVILLE. Proceed past Sterkfontein dam, Olifantshoek pass, Bergville and then on to Winterton. From Winterton turn RIGHT onto R600 Central Drakensberg. Travel 30 kms to CHAMPAGNE CASTLE HOTEL. Drive exactly 1km further on towards Monks Cowl. See sign on right Ema-fweni. Entrance at end of double strip driveway. From Durban leave the NR at exit 179 ESTCOURT NORTH. At top of ramp turn left towards LOSKOP/BERGVILLE. Travel 30kms. Turn left onto R600 Central Drakensberg. Travel 21 km's towards champagne Castle Hotel. 1km further after this hotel turn right at Ema-fweni sign Entrance at end
