Our funky lodge is located at the foot of the Amphitheatre between Royal Natal National Park and Cathedral Peak Reserve. Here the emphasis of your stay is on having fun and filling each day with as many experiences as possible. From the lawn the entire Northern Drakensberg range is spread out in a breathtaking panorama enticing you to explore it!

While you are here, visit Lesotho and Tugela Falls (the highest waterfall in Africa), rock climb, horse ride, mountain bike, fly-fish. Prices are ridiculously cheap and service is excellent. Use the lodge as a base for two or three FULL days. Each day you can experience a new highlight without wasting time on unnecessary travelling.

The lodge takes its name from a unique part of the Northern Drakensberg that is shaped like a natural amphitheatre. It is here that the world famous Tugela Falls has its source, rising at Mont Aux Sources and then plunging down the 1km basalt wall, into Royal Natal National Park. Lesotho and South Africa are separated by this monolith.

There is a range of accommodation available at Amphitheatre Backpackers Lodge from simple camping spaces to private en-suite rooms with their own kitchenettes.

Our accommodation is really, really affordable (really). And whether you're camping, wanting a dormitory bed, a room to share, or travelling as a group—we can accommodate you.

Even if you're just in the area, the bar is a great place to hang out. We have a really huge selection of funky music, a pool table, and in the winter a log fire. And great company!

• Camping is R75 per person.
• Dormitory beds are R115 pp and you have access to a shared kitchen.
• Twins (twin beds) are R125 pp (R250), and Deluxe R160pp (R320)
• Doubles (double bed) R160pp (R270) and Deluxe R320 pp (R340)
• Family rooms (3 to 8 people) are R145 pp
• Large groups can be accomodated at the Top Lodge
