Custom designed and built to meet 4 star requirements in luxury self catering establishments, Ashbrook Country Lodge opened at 19 Hill Street, Clarens with 2 cottages in March 2005. Complete with open fireplaces in the lounges, under floor heating, private braai facilities for each cottage and secure parking, Ashbrook cottages also offer fully equipped kitchens and luxury finishes such as down duvets, cotten linen, large fluffy towels and satellite television. Ashbrook at Hill Street proved so popular that owners, Victor and Vanessa Knowles decided to expand Ashbrook's capacity and purchased another property at 73 Malherbe Street, Clarens. The second phase, cottages 3 and 4 opened in December 2006, also achieving the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) 4 star status. The building of phase three, 2 additional cottages on the Malherbe Street property is due to commence in June 2009. Ashbrook Country Lodge offer both one and two bedroom cottages suitable for couples and larger groups. Cottages No 1 and 4 have sleeper couches in the lounge giving the flexibility to accommodate an additional adult or two children. While the Hill Steet cottages overlook the majestic Rooiberge, the Malherbe Street cottages have magnificent views over the Maluti Mountains in Lesotho. Both properties are fully fenced with remote controlled gates providing secure parking for guests. PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE POWER CRISIS IN SOUTH AFRICA THE ASHBROOK COUNTRY LODGE UNDER FLOOR HEATING HAS BEEN LIMITED TO THE LOUNGES AND BATHROOMS. ELECTRIC BLANKETS ARE PROVIDED ON THE BEDS TO BEAT THE NIGHT TIME COLD. LIKE THE REST OF SOUTH AFRICA, CLARENS IS AFFECTED BY LOAD SHEDDING. CANDLES ARE PROVIDED IN EACH COTTAGE AND AS OUR HOBS ARE GAS, SELF CATERING IS FULLY AVAILABLE.

Proceed through Bethlehem on the R49 towards Harrismith for about 10 kms, turn right onto the R711 to Clarens. From Durban: Take the N3 North to Harrismith. Turn off onto the R49 to Bethlehem. About 10kms before reaching Bethlehem turn South onto the R711 to Clarens. From Bloemfontein: Take the N1 North towards Johannesburg. Turn East onto the R49, pass Winberg and Senekal to Bethlehem. Drive through Bethlehem, turn right onto the R49 to Harrismith and then right again after about 10 kms onto the R711 to Clarens.
