It is situated at the upper end of Champagne Valley, nestling against the foothills of the mighty Drakensberg (12,000ft. a.s.l.) close to Champagne Castle Hotel and Monks Cowl Nature Reserve. The view, up into the majestic peaks, or down the valley is superb. The house and its surrounds of ten hectares, offers a quiet base where one can simply relax, or set out to explore and enjoy the many surrounding amenities, including places to eat at.Each room has a queen-size bed, TV and large patio doors opening out onto your own spectacular star-studded night sky (if you prefer) and undisturbed day-time view of the valley. Sunrise and sunsets are magnificent and you will want to use your camera. Each of two rooms has an en-suite bath and separate shower. A tea and coffee facility is provided centrally as well as a fridge for any special drinks you may prefer. A full English breakfast is provided, either in the open plan kitchen or on the patio from where the beautiful view can be enjoyed. Added attractions which are situated on the property are a small trout dam (which offers the enthusiast the opportunity to catch his own supper), the Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Display Centre, with its raptors and daily shows, and lastly, a starting point for a short pleasant walk, known as the Hadedah Trail. Turn left and proceed for 20km to Winterton. Opposite the Engen garage, turn left onto the R600 CENTRAL BERG road. Proceed for ±13km to the crossroad junction. B) Alternative to A) above, Short Cut Route: (Use during daylight hours only) (Or as a short cut, But Not To Be Used At Night, as it passes through a rural area). Take EXIT 179 at Estcourt North/ Giants Castle/Loskop/ Central Drakensberg. Travel for approximately 20 minutes, until the crossroads. Turn left onto the R600. Thokosiza is on your left hand side. ******** Continue along the R600 for ±15 km (you will pass The Nest Hotel and Champagne Sports Resort.) Continue towards Champagne Castle Hotel. Proceed for 1,6km past the "Dragon Peaks / Drakensberg Boys Choir School" entrance on your right, up the steep S-bend, to the FAK Jeugterrein / Fernwood Lodge green gates are on your right. Continue for (300m from Fernwood Lodge gates), you will pass a large painted sign "Falconridge" on your right, travel a few metres further, turn right into the farm track cut through the trees on your right (marked with piles of white stones). Proceed ±200m on farm track down to the house. (A Large house with a green roof). You have arrived! Proceed for ± 5km; turn left onto the R712 QWA-QWA/BERGVILLE road. Proceed for ± 10km. Turn left again on the BERGVILLE/OLIVIERSHOEK PASS road. Continue past Sterkfontein dam, down Oliviershoek Pass, straight through Bergville and onto Winterton. Opposite the Engen garage, turn right onto the R600 CENTRAL BERG road, proceed for ± 13km to the crossroad junction. ******* See above B) Freeway Route: Johannesburg to Van Reenen's Pass on the N3. Take the first glide off after the Tugela Toll Plaza, which is at the bottom of Van Reenen's Pass. Turn left for ± 4 kms on the N11 and then turn right towards WINTERTON onto the R600. You will cross over the N3 concrete highway. At the T-junction (R74), turn left towards Winterton. In Winterton, opposite the Engen garage, turn right onto the R600 CENTRAL BERG road. Proceed for ± 13km to the crossroad junction. ******* See above Alternatively: you may continue on the N3 from the tollgate towards Estcourt (for about 38km), until you reach EXIT 194, the R74/BERGVILLE/COLENSO/GREYTOWN glide off.
